Culturally Conscious Curriculum
How does my Curriculum size up?
Service Description
Using an equity lens to apply to curricula is key to describing and critiquing culturally destructive curriculum. Students should understand the world and locate themselves within it. Curricula that only reflect the lives of dominant populations — for example, White people and culture, nuclear families, or able-bodied people — reinforce ideas that sideline students of color, linguistically diverse students, single parent/multi-generation/LGBTQ+ families, and differently-abled people. Culturally responsive curricula are necessary for culturally responsive classrooms and schools. A screening tool is provided to support on-going work internally. This framework can be provided as a stand-alone assessment, on a consulting basis or as a workshop for educators.
